What should I do if I am aware of  the maltreatment of an animal?

Some behaviors or activities that may appear to an observer to be animal neglect or cruelty may not fit the legal definition of animal cruelty yet are worthy of concern. The Colorado LINK project suggests that persons with any knowledge or suspicion of animal maltreatment document relevant information and report the incident(s) to the local animal control agency, humane society or law enforcement. “When in doubt, check it out!” In cases of uncertainty, it is helpful to talk to someone that can help you understand what you are seeing and take a report if the situation warrants reporting.
